He remembered how much he loved running as a kid, and he spontaneously left the bar and went for a 30-mile run while still a little drunk.\u00a0 And oh yeah, he hadn&#8217;t run consistently in 15 years. A few years later, the guy wins Badwater, the 135-mile race through Death Valley.\u00a0 My first 30 miles will be January 2nd, and I&#8217;ll have just turned 29.\u00a0 So I guess I have a year on Dean (right)!\u00a0 Also cool (to me): he sleeps four hours a night and runs a marathon every morning before he starts his day.\u00a0 No big deal.<\/p>\n<p>My point is, how awesome is it that you can just decide to change your life and do it like that?\u00a0 Certainly his case is extreme, but still it&#8217;s inspiring.\u00a0 Another cool thing is that Dean&#8217;s 50 Marathons in 50 States in 50 Days thing wasn&#8217;t really about him showing off for publicity, like a lot of people seem to think.\u00a0 It&#8217;s an impressive feat, but people have run across the entire country in that time, averaging twice as much daily mileage.\u00a0 So some ultrarunners hate on Dean for self-promoting so much!\u00a0 But his point was to inspire people, especially kids, to get in shape.\u00a0 He ran most of the marathons with groups of people and got as many people involved as possible to spread a message.\u00a0 Call me a fan.<\/p>\n<h3>What&#8217;s Kenzoil?<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-31283 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/kenzoil-photo.jpg\" alt=\"Green kenzoil and bread\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/kenzoil-photo.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/kenzoil-photo-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/kenzoil-photo-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/kenzoil-photo-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/kenzoil-photo-500x375.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The product I&#8217;m trying tonight (with my beer and a loaf of organic rye bread) is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kenzoil.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kenzoil<\/a>, a vegan condiment that the company sent me to try out and review.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s so good!\u00a0 Ever been to Bonefish Grill, where they serve their bread with that pesto mixed with olive oil?\u00a0 It tastes like that, only there&#8217;s no cheese in it, since it&#8217;s vegan.\u00a0 It&#8217;s made from olive oil, fresh garlic, basil, and spices and it&#8217;s fricking good.\u00a0 And no sugar, either.\u00a0 They say you can put it on salads or use it as a marinade, among other things, but I&#8217;ve only tried it with bread.\u00a0 Highly recommended by your old pal the NMA.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What do you do when you&#8217;re on winter break and finally have lots of time, but you&#8217;re too sore to run?
