{"id":3081,"date":"2009-07-01T14:58:16","date_gmt":"2009-07-01T18:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/?p=3081"},"modified":"2020-04-14T14:11:35","modified_gmt":"2020-04-14T18:11:35","slug":"recovery-socks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/recovery-socks\/","title":{"rendered":"Recovery Sock review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-30817\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/BANNER-LOGO.jpg\" alt=\"The Recovery Sock logo\" width=\"311\" height=\"113\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/BANNER-LOGO.jpg 886w, https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/BANNER-LOGO-300x109.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/BANNER-LOGO-768x280.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 311px) 100vw, 311px\" \/>Anyone who runs marathons knows that icky feeling your legs get after long, hard runs.\u00a0 A little bit Jell-O, a little bit sore, a little bit twitchy.\u00a0 Just plain weird.\u00a0 Well, yesterday after my hilly 15-miler, I had none of the above!\u00a0 The magic solution&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.recoverysock.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Recovery Socks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ever since reading about the great results other runners have had with compression socks, I had been dying to give these bad boys a try. \u00a0 The idea behind Recovery Socks is that by lightly compressing one&#8217;s lower legs, they improve circulation and prevent blood pooling and swelling in the legs, thus reducing ickiness and speeding up recovery time.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-30894\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/recovery-socks-back-photo.jpg\" alt=\"Matt wearing The Recovery Sock\" width=\"236\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/recovery-socks-back-photo.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/recovery-socks-back-photo-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/recovery-socks-back-photo-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 236px) 100vw, 236px\" \/>Marco from Recovery Sock told me to try them after a long, hilly run, so I&#8217;d say yesterday&#8217;s workout qualifies.\u00a0 I have to admit I was skeptical; the idea does seem sort of gimmicky.\u00a0 Knee-high socks are going to help me recover? Come on.\u00a0 But you know what?\u00a0 The socks felt so great, I didn&#8217;t want to take them off!\u00a0 Every time I did, I started to get that weird-leg feeling and I put them right back on.\u00a0 As I got into bed last night still wearing them, Erin suggested that perhaps sleeping in them would be going a bit overboard, so I did eventually take them off before they became one with my skin.<\/p>\n<p>So they absolutely made the day-of more enjoyable.\u00a0 The important question, though, is &#8220;How do my legs feel today, the day after?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-31006\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/recovery-socks-photo.jpg\" alt=\"Matt wearing The Recovery Socks while propping feet up on desk in front of computer\" width=\"303\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/recovery-socks-photo.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/recovery-socks-photo-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/recovery-socks-photo-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/recovery-socks-photo-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/recovery-socks-photo-500x375.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 303px) 100vw, 303px\" \/>The answer: If aliens had abducted me in the night and erased my memory, I&#8217;d never believe you if you told me I ran yesterday.\u00a0 Of course, if my mind were erased, I might have bigger concerns than whether or not I ran.\u00a0\u00a0 But the point is that my legs feel that good.\u00a0 Certainly not sore, and surprisingly, not even tired.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know where the tiredness went, but it&#8217;s not it my legs.\u00a0 In fact, I&#8217;m going to do my track workout tonight and be right back on schedule.\u00a0 And I have <em>always<\/em> needed a day off after long runs.<\/p>\n<p>There doesn&#8217;t seem to be a concensus about when and how long to wear the socks.\u00a0 I know that a lot of people are even wearing them during runs and races, with great results.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure if I&#8217;m ready to make that kind of fashion statement, but maybe I&#8217;ll give it a try one day on a long run and see how it goes.\u00a0 If it helps, I don&#8217;t think the people I&#8217;m passing during races will have much to laugh about!<\/p>\n<p>As I said, I wore the socks for most of the day after my run.\u00a0 Some people say they wear them for an hour, some say for a few hours, some say they live in them.\u00a0 If you have any experience with these socks, how long do you usually wear them?\u00a0 Do you race in them?\u00a0 And if you&#8217;ve never tried them, get your hands on a pair.<\/p>\n<h3>30-Day Challenge Wrap-Up<\/h3>\n<p>My <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/miscellaneous\/oikos-organic-greek-yogurt-and-a-new-coffee-challenge\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">30-Day Challenge<\/a> ended successfully last weekend.\u00a0 30 days, not a drop of caffeinated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/i-cant-quit-you-coffee\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">coffee<\/a>.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve tried it a few times since then, and I did note one interesting thing.\u00a0 Each time I had it, I got hit with a wave of fatigue around 5 p.m.\u00a0 You might call it &#8220;hitting the wall.&#8221;\u00a0 Just a sudden urge to go to sleep or lie down and watch TV.\u00a0 This really isn&#8217;t surprising, since when I get all jazzed up on coffee, the energy isn&#8217;t coming from this nearly calorie-free beverage (I drink it without milk or sugar).\u00a0 It&#8217;s borrowed energy, and if you borrow something, you need to give it back.<\/p>\n<p>So my plan with coffee is this.\u00a0 I&#8217;m going to drink it when I believe that energy in the morning is more valuable than energy later, knowing that I might crash in the evening.\u00a0 So if I have a something fun planned at night, or a big workout or lots of school stuff to do, then coffee in the morning isn&#8217;t smart.\u00a0 Or if the extra energy in the morning will be wasted, like if all I&#8217;m doing is driving or running errands, then what&#8217;s the point?\u00a0 But if I&#8217;m working on an exciting project or meeting with friends or just alone with a great book, then what&#8217;s wrong with a little java jolt to make fun times even better, as long as I&#8217;m willing to hit the wall later on?<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s enough about me.\u00a0 What about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nomeatathlete.com\/three-days-without-coffee-and-still-kickin\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">your 30-Day Challenges<\/a>?\u00a0 I know a few people succeeded, so congratulations!
