I finished my first 50 miler (first ultra too) nearly 2 months ago and my body currently feels like a fat slug. Everyone is excitedly talking about getting race ready for all the summer 10km races etc and I am feeling despondnat and struggling trying to keep up with everyone in training. Show me a hill and my mind says “Great, let’s walk”. When I pick up the pace on the flat, I feel like I am going to pass out but in reality I am not going nearly as fast as I used to before I started ultra training. It is so nice to see that I am not alone and also encouraging to know that it is a mind set issue. Gotta to get myself into more positive mode. However I did really enjoy ultra training (not saying it was easy though) and I really enjoyed the ultra itself. Maybe that is my thing, rather than these shorter faster races. Anyway thanks for the post. It has made me feel better 🙂

I love this. I’m in the same boat when it comes to training for my 1st 50K in april. I really need to train hard like I used to in track/cross country. However at the same time no one that is 18 runs ultras so it’s hard to find someone to truly compete against.
