For those who were not raised in a far. Those free to roam chickens and their babies fall pray to rats, weasels, snakes and other predators. Few make it to adulthood. They are better protected in captivity although eventually, after a longer life die at the butcher block.
For those who live in the city, example Sarasota FLorida and my neighborhood, there are lots of families with loose chickens roaming the streets. And they fall pray to NOT CARS but snakes, rats etc. I love to see the hens scratching in the raod ditches with their babies but every day the numbers go down.
Life lives by eating.
In Costa Rica I was chcked to see a toucan, yes the one in the cereal box, pluck a baby monkey out of the mothers back. A common sight, although choking…..
